DS 4 Hatchback (2015-2018) running costs and reliability
Miles per pound (mpp)
Fuel economy
- Diesel engines offer the best running costs
- The best performing engine is the 1.6-litre diesel with 118bhp
If DS 4 running costs are top of your priority list then diesel is the best engine choice, in particular the 118bhp 1.6-litre paired with a manual gearbox which boasts CO2 emissions of 100g/km and an official combined fuel consumption of 74.3mpg.
If you’d prefer a little more power and a sub-10 second 0-62mph time then the higher-powered 148bhp 2-litre manual diesel has some promising figures with a combined fuel economy of 72.4mpg and the same CO2 emissions as the lower-powered option (on 17-inch alloys).
DS 4 Hatchback CO2 emissions are adequate but not class-leading as no model manages to get below 100g/km which isn’t great in the face of ever-tightening BIK tax bands for company car drivers. If maximising your running costs is top of your priority list, the 148bhp 2-litre diesel, or the 118bhp 1.6-litre option are both matched on CO2 at 100g/km. The latter has marginally better fuel economy though.
We don’t think there’ll be much to worry about when it comes to DS 4 hatchback reliability. Despite the new branding many of the car’s fundamental underpinnings and components are tried and tested in other Citroen models and the French firm has a well-established reputation for producing reliable cars.
