- Diesel best for motorway drivers
What are the running costs?
The DS 7 is only available as a diesel or plug-in hybrid. The latter will theoretically be the cheapest to run as it’s the most economical. The official figures for the plug-in versions are around the 235mpg mark. Like with other plug-in hybrids, this figure isn’t achievable unless you charge every time you use the car and only cover short trips, really utilising the battery. In testing, on short journeys you can expect 100+mpg but on an 85 mile motorway jaunt, with a full battery, we only achieved 45mpg.
Official figures peg the diesel at around 50mpg. This number is much easier to achieve and in all likelihood, the diesel will be cheaper to run if you regularly cover motorway miles.

Servicing and warranty
The DS 7 needs servicing yearly or every 10,000 miles. The company offers a stream of fixed price service plans, as well as peculiar perks such as free tickets to lifestyle events in France.
However, its warranty is a bit stingy compared with other brands. It’s for three years or 60,000 miles, which is pretty different from Toyota’s 10-year warranty. For the PHEV models, the battery gets a separate eight-year/100,000 miles one.
Reliability
- Too early to tell
- One recall
- Previous model didn’t have any horror stories
The DS 7 hasn’t been on sale that long so it’s hard to determine the car’s reliability. However, it has already been subject to one recall concerning the PHEV’s battery overheating.
