Should you buy one?

I shouldn’t have worried about the Ferrari 296 losing two cylinders and gaining a plug-in hybrid system. If anything, the new V6 sounds better than the F8 Tributo’s old V8 and I’ve no complaints regarding the performance on offer.

The acceleration on offer is truly savage, and makes you wonder if you really need an SF90 or 12Cilindri, while it’s poised, agile and entertaining in the bends. The Fiorano pack is a bit much for the road, so I’d save my money and keep to the softer standard suspension and less extreme seats.

That said, a Porsche 911 GT3 RS offers a more involving driving experience, if not the same level of accelerative ferocity, and the Lamborghini Temerario has got to be worthy of consideration.

What we like

The performance, noise and handling. That said, the 296’s long-distance economy is pretty impressive.

What we don’t like

Fiddly infotainment is a pain to use, some of the option prices really take the Michael and the steering could have more feel.
