Ferrari California T safety won’t be tested by Euro NCAP since in that organisation’s eyes it’s a niche model. However, there are two front side-mounted airbags along with sophisticated stability and traction control systems serving to keep you and your other occupants safe.

There are ISOFIX points on the two rear seats to install a child seat, while the entire body shell has been designed with rigidity in mind so should prove strong in the event the worst happens.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the brakes too here; they’re fantastic and are guaranteed to surprise you with their performance if you have to perform an emergency stop.

With the roof up you’ve got 340 litres of boot space, and the rear seat backs will also fold down in order to load longer items like golf bags. Ferrari California T practicality is boosted further by the addition of rear seats; but while officially a four-seater, those two rear-most perches aren’t meant for fully grown adults. If you’re average or above size in the front, it’s unlikely you’ll leave any legroom in the rear. It’s probably best to think of this car as a two-seater with a pair of occasional seats in the back.

Front seat passengers get a pair of cupholders and a decent-sized glovebox along with a number of places dotted around the cabin to store items like sunglasses. There’s also a net pocket on the back of each front seat which will prove useful for maps and the like.

The 14-second roof does impede boot space, but you’re left with a still-useful 240 litres with the folding mechanism in its ‘down’ position. It looks mightily complicated back there are the roof folds away, with a web of wiring and metal panels all moving in harmony. We wonder how well this will stand the test of time if used a lot, but rest assured it’ll be covered by Ferrari’s warranty should anything be amiss.
