What does this car say about you?

It says that I have an individual approach to choosing a car. Also, that I don't have to 'keep up with the Jones's' by having the latest thing. I don't mind that my car is P reg.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Those who express an opinion are generally positive about it.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes. It's been reliable, very pleasing to drive and I like roof-down motoring. Oh and the insurance is NOT horrendous! I've generally been paying £250 fully comp protected. My latest renewal is £197. Very good for a two seat open top sports car. I am in my 40's though, so that helps!

What are you likely to buy next?

Perhaps a Lancia Lybra Station Wagon. I'll have to get one from Belgium or somewhere on the continent. A JTD, I think.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £6,300

When did you buy the car?

    January 2003

Did you get a good deal and why?

Yes. The car was low mileage with full history and in good condition. It's also given great service in the past 9 years despite not being garaged.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I like Italian cars and wanted something sporty and different to the run-of-the-mill.

    What was the dealer like?

Good. I know him well from my Lancia connections.

  • Driving it

    What's it like to drive?

Better than you'd think. Some people snub it because it's front wheel drive but most of the best handling cars have been front wheel driven. The steering, handling and grip are very good and brings a grin to my face every time I drive it. Ride is maybe a bit too jiggly for some but mine is pleasingly free of rattles and squeaks. It goes very well too but I won't give details on this!!

    What's it like to park?

It's a fairly small car and you quickly get used to knowing where the extremities are. Also, the left hand drive is an advantage if you park in the street. No need to wait for passing cars etc.

  • Living with it

    5 out of 5 5.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Very little other than scheduled maintenance. It's on its third rear exhaust but the centre box and catalyst are original. Not bad for a 15 year old car! Oh and the hood lasted 13 years - again, very good considering it has been out in all weathers.

What's most practical about your car?

Boot is good for a sports car. Roof stowing / raising arrangement takes seconds.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Roof and - surprisingly the left hand drive. It means that you can step out on to the pavement. You get used to the left hand drive in no time.
