Fiat Bravo (1995 - 2002) 1.4 SX 3d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
My Fiat Bravo (1.4 SX R reg) is almost 23 years old and I have owned this car for almost 21 years. To date the mileage is around 34,500 miles from new.(summer / dry use only & garage stored) Before I bought this car, I would have stayed away from Fiats (poor reliability, poor customer service, rust, patchy build quality e.t.c - the usual sterotypes). But I have always liked the looks & shape of the fiat bravo - I wish FIAT would produce more interesting vehicles today. Arguably, the Fiat Bravo (type 182 (or mark 1) has got to be the most underrated, unappreciated, but prettiest hatchbacks of its time (especially when you compare the boring competition from Ford, Vauxhall & Volkswagen in 1995 (when the Fiat Bravo came out) Likes: Looks, handling, reliability, galvanised body shell, good performance and smooth running from 1.4L 12V engine & decent fuel economy, no electrical gremlins to date, cheap insurance, good parts availability (still) (if you know where to look) & cheap servicing costs. Dislikes: Cheap looking interior plastics, small mirrors, changed original stupid plastic cambelt tensioner to metal (at 11,000 miles - car was 2.5 years old) , water pump & cambelt as a precaution. Conclusion: This car throughout the years has never failed to surprised me, the car is still rust free, (never been welded) the paintwork has also aged well (no flaking or discolouration), every electrical item still works. (original radio / cassette still present & works). & continues to pass the MOT & exhaust emissions with flying colours. (one of only 4 (1997 reg.) licensed to be on the road in the UK in 2020)
How reliable do you find the car?
As the car is now 23 years old. I am just starting to get age related problems - seal gone on clutch slave cylinder for example. No big deal, £35.00 for the part, 20 minutes to fit & bleed the clutch line and back on the road. During my 20+ years of ownership, I have found it to be totally dependable, just as long as you service the vehicle to the manufacturers recommendations (like I do) & fit good quality parts.Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
The car has turned out to be an absolute peach. Comfortable to drive, excellent direct steering with good feedback. Good handling car with a manufacturer sporty suspension set-up. (firm low speed ride but becomes smoother at faster speeds)About their car
