Fiat Cinquecento Sporting 3d (1995/M) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Stung by a main dealer three years ago. Search around now and 3.5K should land you a good example.
Costs
Insurance not as cheap for the target audience (under 25s) as you'd expect. Fuel economy is excellent, even when driven by a cap on backwards member. Parts are cheap. Main dealer servicing is NOT.

On the road
Driving
It's a baby barnstormer, capable of making anyone smirk. Its road manners are good, but the bumpy ride and body roll can be tiresome. The seats are supportive, but you may find them narrow.
Performance
The rev-happy FIRE engine has enough go for some mini-mischief, whithout attracting the Nova SR element. Brakes are underpowered, and the tyres struggle for grip when trying to make a sharp exit.

Living with it
Reliability
Fiat are much improved, but not enough. Let down by silly things, such as handbrake/clutch trouble, rattles, flimsy electrics. The cramped engine bay means that overheating is a risk in the summer.
Image
Not as good as before. Not as unique, and some are starting to look decidedly worn. Upstaged by the Seicento.
Comfort
The seats are good, whilst the electric wiindows and central locking are unexpected bonuses. The rest of the cabin is spartan, and unsuited for long journeys.

Security and Service
Security
The locks seem average. Windows are not etched. The early ones don't have an alarm or immobiliser.
Service
"Customer Service" is an alien concept to Fiat main dealers. Service prices are inflated, the staff are surly and the mechanics inept. Independent specialists offer far superior service and prices.
