Overview
As with the original Panda, Fiat has added a 4x4 model to the standard car range. Where similar small cars often just add some body cladding and increase ground clearance, the Panda 4x4 is a bona fide off-roader which has surprising ability in even tricky terrain. Unfortunately it pays the price on road – the raised suspension results in excessive body roll while the engine struggles to provide decent pace and feels underpowered on the open road.
In August 2008 the Panda Cross was launched. This features even chunkier styling and a bespoke front end but most importantly is fitted with a 1.3-litre MultiJet engine which is much preferable to the standard 1.2-litre petrol unit.
