Fiat Punto Hatchback 55 SX 5d (1994/M) Owner Review

Economy
Value
The popularity of the Punto during its initial years means there's a lot of good ones for £2000 or less. A good Punto is a good bargain.
Costs
It's a simple car that anyone with DIY skills can keep running happily. Things can go wrong, but preventative maintenance is highly effective. Fuel economy, insurance and tax are all very cheap.

Driving
It's good fun and it likes to be driven. It can be tricky at low speeds without power steering. Tends to roll a bit - suspension and ride are a bit crude. Small wheels. But it's so fun, so who cares?!
Performance
Amazingly quick for a 1.1 until you get above 65mph. Suffers with more people inside. Surprisingly torquey, but frequent gear changes are necessary. There's little quicker in insurance group 3!

Living with it
Reliability
Wouldn't start for 15 mins one day which was strange, but nothing else. Has never broken down.
Image
Classic. One of the first of the high-lighters. Classless, care-free, chic and timeless. I'm a bloke, but it's a sexless car, too. Great.
Comfort
Interior is a bit grey, but is sensible, airy and comfortable. Superb driving position for 6ft+ like me. I can't stress that enough.

Security and Service
Security
Mine has immobiliser, which is essential in my opinion. Pretty standard. I wouldn't leave bags etc. on show though, or bother with an expensive stereo. It's ok.
Service
I cannot say since I haven't used the main dealer.

Engine
A good little engine if looked after. Alternator made some noises, but WD40 has sorted that. :)
Other
