Fiat Punto Hatchback 60 S 3d (1998/R) Owner Review

-
Economy
Value
Probably paid a bit over odds as main dealer.
Costs
Very cheap to run, especially as I avoid main dealer service (not that there appears to be Fiat dealer in Birmingham nowadays)
-
On the road
Driving
It is quite fun, if thought as a go-kart with a lot of room for shopping.
Performance
Pretty decent for a 1.2. Has carried 4 adults + luggage on a lengthy airport trip on the motorway with unexpected ease.

Living with it
Reliability
Brake shoes, pads, discs, exhaust, front tyres and battery. Actual car seems quite well put together, apart from doors made of old chewing gum wrappers.
Image
VW drivers may sneer, but it's ok for a shopping trolley.
Comfort
Quite like the driving position (I'm 6ft) but think seat is starting to sag. Rear axle doesn't like potholes.

Security and Service
Security
Well a 60S is not going to attract the professional thief, but I would be worried if I had a Sporting. Once hired a Punto in Italy with a non standard immobiliser added!
Service
Outlet ceased to be a Fiat dealer, but did ring up to offer me a 'special' service quote, about 4 times what Lex charge.
