Fiat Punto Hatchback 75 SX 3d (1997/P) Owner Review

Economy
Value
When initially purchased good value, low mileage.
Costs
Running costs low average of 9p per mile (fuel only), but the repair work has pushed costs through the roof! Do not lose the red Fiat key - £600 to replace!

On the road
Driving
When the car had standard wheels and suspension, the driving was very poor - no grip on roundabouts at 25mph. After new wider wheels and harder sports suspension, car could cope with roundabouts at 50-70.
Performance
Engines very nippy due to overall lightweight of the car. 0-60mph in 12sec standard. 10.5sec after minimal tuning. Will beat almost any new 1.4 or 1.6 from the lights!

Living with it
Reliability
Where to start - Lamda sensor at 28,000 miles, oil leak at 28,000-50,000miles (lots of money to sort out!), clutch at 48,000 miles, 3 Timing Belts in 22,000miles. ECU at 51,000miles. Every body panel rattles - very annoying!
Image
It's ok - a bit girly in standard guise.
Comfort
Seats quite good, but started to squeak and creak badly at 45,000 miles, but I ain't a small fella.

Security and Service
Security
Immobiliser ok - windows can be easily opened.
