Fiat Punto Hatchback 85 SX 16V 3d (1998/S) Owner Review

Economy
Value
I probably paid over the odds, but it does come with elec windows, power steering + opt. ABS.
Costs
Running costs are cheap enough. Parts are so-so, but are ridiculously high from Fiat dealers

On the road
Driving
Not the worst, but not the best either. Far too much body roll, but it grips to the road well. Steering is quite responsive.
Performance
Probably the fastest unmodified 1.2 your likely to drive. Very responsive and doesn't feel too strained until you get to 90mph+.

Living with it
Reliability
Not broke down on me yet but parts are of poor quality and wear easily.
Image
Still a pretty and respected car - especially with colour coded bumpers.
Comfort
Seat is very unsupportive and hurts the bottom of my back. Steering wheel + seat adjusts in height though.

Security and Service
Security
Hard to comment - an alarm was fitted before I bought it, though I wouldn't like to leave it anywhere without one.
Service
Stupidly high prices for parts and labour.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
No problems.
Other
Watch out for exhaust + sump box, both wear quickly. Remember it's a 16v engine and change the cam belt at least every 50,000 miles!
