Fiat Punto Hatchback 1.2 3d (2000/X) Owner Review

-
Economy
Value
Depreciates quickly and trade prices are low.
Costs
Expensive to repair, exhaust is one unit and shockingly priced when requiring replacement.
-
On the road
Driving
Great fun as a city car - the City button's a bit too light for steering. Easy to park, pretty good vision all around.
Performance
Great as a city car, wouldn't want it on the motorway, mind.
-
Living with it
Reliability
As above - stupid things have failed costing hundreds of pounds, haven't actually broken down in it... yet.
Image
The best thing about this car is that it looks cracking when stood still. That's the best way to leave it.
Comfort
Seats are a little hard, rear suspension squeaks and is a bit harsh.
-
Security and Service
Security
Immobiliser as standard, haven't had anyone wanting to break into it (I wish they would!)
Service
Fiat dealerships are notoriously poor, parts take an age to source and service is non-existent, practically.
-
Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Head gasket failed at 52k (and that was good considering some horror stories I've heard)
Other
Power steering motor failing, windscreen wiper motor failed, rear suspension 'squeaks' and requires attention, airbag warning light switch on newer models is located under driver's seat -brake at high speeds and the light flicks on. Fiat should rewire it.
Ownership
Did you buy the car new?
Used
Would you buy the same model again?
No
Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?
No
