Fiat Stilo Multiwagon (2003-2007) engines, drive and performance

The Stilo Multiwagon gets a simpler line up of engines than the hatchback. The 1.6 sounds good and is easy to get along with – it’s the best petrol engine if you mix town and motorway driving. The 1.8 is quicker, but not pleasingly so. The 1.9 JTD is an impressive engine – powerful, refined and very economical.
The steering is light and it parks easily, but on the move there’s too much bodyroll and the steering feels oddly disconnected from the front wheels. Soft suspension is in keeping with its role as a family transporter, but it’s not so suited to rushing about or having fun. There are more pleasing rivals to drive if you like that sort of thing.
