Ford Cougar 2.0 16V 3d (1999/T) Owner Review

-
Economy
Value
Pick the later models for the gizmos. Heated screen is a must.
Costs
Mechanically it's a Ford, cheapish and easy to work on. Weird tyre size limits to Pirelli (ok) or Michelin (yuk).
-
On the road
Driving
At its best on smooth fast roads. You feel the holes in town.
Performance
Ok on the move, sluggish off the line when service is due, but runs out of steam chasing 525 BMWs.
-
Living with it
Reliability
It's a Mondeo underneath, what can go wrong.
Image
Mature rather than boy-racer (thankfully).
Comfort
Pretty good, as is usual for a Ford, but rake only adjust column takes some adjusting to. Fitting a child seat to the rear can (just) be done.

Security and Service
Security
Seems ok, but never tested.
Service
Don't go to official Ford dealer (rip off). Use someone reputable like Inchcape.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
10k-mile service interval, but goes off song noticably at 8.5k.
Other
Discs replaced at 40k miles.
