Ford Escort Estate 1.6i L 5d (1992/K) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Commodious Barn which, if bought right, doesn't depreciate too badly.
Costs
Service Parts from motor factors are dirt cheap. Fuel economy nasty if you rag it.

On the road
Driving
Handled like a barn before I uprated with gas shocks and good tyres. Is now a very dynamic barn. Not a talented stopper, though.
Performance
16v engine a huge improvement on horrible CVH lumps of old.

Living with it
Reliability
Has only ever failed to get home once - when my old man crashed it. Prone to occasional emotional outbursts - it has done an indeterminate but huge mileage!
Image
Escort Estate? Image? Stop it you're killing me. A handsome beast though
Comfort
Loads of room. Loads of room. Loads of Room. Huge Ashtray.

Security and Service
Security
Standard fit Ford security is quite laughable. However, the little sods leave it alone now they've ruined its appearance.
Service
This car never goes near Ford main dealers - the principal reason why it still works as well as it does.
