Ford Escort Estate 1.8D GLX 5d (1991/J) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Nice big spacous estate. Stingy equipment and poor drive let it down.
Costs
Runs on air, chews fanbelts and has good refinement for diesel. Better than the latest focus TD.

On the road
Driving
To much body roll and lifeless chassis gets you from A-B with no fun. Worthy of a KIA badge.
Performance
No 00mph at all, especially from stand still, but good at motorway speed. A nice cruiser with lack of BHP.

Living with it
Reliability
Not bad but could be better. Patchy build and rust prone though.
Image
Poor image backed by Top Gear's brilliant showing of it in their top 10 cockroaches. Brilliant!
Comfort
Smooth ride refined engine. Only poor seating lets it down and your too low to the ground.

Security and Service
Security
Central locking that sounds like its just about to go and an immobiliser that never gets tested because who really wants nick a ford escort estate/van with the seats down?
Service
Poor when we first had, so we switched dealer. Now we couldn't be happier if it weren't for the car.
