Ford Escort Hatchback 1.6 Ghia 5d (1992/J) Owner Review

-
Economy
Costs
Consumption way above quoted figure, but cheap to repair when things go wrong (as they do quite frequently).
-
On the road
Driving
Painfully wallowing suspension means you won't take corners at over 10mph, average acceleration, good feel to the steering.
Performance
Quietish engine enjoys motorways but doesn't take to being pushed on smaller roads. Suspension still the major problem.
-
Living with it
Reliability
In the 10k miles that I've driven it, first gear has packed up completely, various gauges have stopped working/become distinctly temperamental, and leaks have appeared all over the place.
Image
More a grandad car than a boy racer.
Comfort
Comfortable to drive and enough room for 4 passengers.

Security and Service
Security
We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Seems to deter the most ardent burglars by it's uninspiring looks, though.
