    4 out of 5 4.0

1.6 16v cost me £525, needed around £100 of work (engine mount, fan belt, cam belt, new shock and service(oil etc)) not bad for a car that price!

Other than the parts when first bought, fine. Fuel economy is same as tuned 1.3 Escort Mk4 previously owned so I don't notice a difference.

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

    Quick, responsive, quite fun.

    Performance

    5 out of 5 5.0

Quite rapid. Picks up well and hits speed limits quickly. Feels slower than it is. Can hit 90mph when it feels like 70! Can compete without hassle with Mk4 XR3is.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

No problems so far, been driven everyday since bought, insured and taxed.

Not brilliant (Escort - Essex boys) but colour coded bumpers and spoiler help lift it. With a few minor modifications (mainly alloys) it can look great.

    Comfort

    3 out of 5 3.0

Quite good, but not as much lower back support as the standard Mk4 Escort seats. Driver's seat tilt feature is nice though, and plenty of legroom, driver's seat goes bit too far back for me, and I'm over 6ft!

  • Security and Service

    Security

    2 out of 5 2.0

Ok, standard alarm etc, locks aren't brilliant but aren't the worst by Ford (I.e. Mk2 Fiesta).

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

Engine mount, made engine and exhaust clang and squeak when accelerating.

    Other

Interior has been smoked in, couple of burns in front on seats, doorcards floor.
