Ford Escort Hatchback 1.8 GTi 3d (1997/R) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Prices have come down a lot lately and you can pick up a low miler for under 3 grand.
Costs
Pretty good on fuel consumption and servicing costs. The looks and lack of decent locks does bump up the insurance though.

Driving
Pretty good. Nice and easy to drive. The suspension isnt harsh and it just plods along unless you want to plant the right foot. Just dont push it too hard hard as the back end does fly out eventually.
Performance
The performance and handling is good but doesnt quite match up to the looks. Go for the RS or Cossie if you're after a true sports car.

Living with it
Reliability
I have ran mine for a year with no problems at all, apart from needing to change the brake discs and normal costs.
Image
I like the look of the Gti. It has all the looks and more (check out the tasty alloys) with out the running costs of the RS2000.
Comfort
Alright I could never quite get comfy in mine. Why they didn't put recaro's in I do not know. Half leather is nice, though.

Security and Service

I never had any problems with the security on mine, although I did think about upgrading it.
