Scores low due to fuel consumption.

Second-hand parts keep. Never got better than 43mpg (the book figure is above 53mpg.)

Driving
Handles excellent, very flat in corners. Heavy diesel engine keeps front wheels firmly on road.
Performance
Ugh, take off from standstill not bad, mid range acceleration awful, engine very rough when accelerated hard and feels as if it is going to jump out of the engine bay when accelerating on a roundabout.

Never failed in 3 years, bought at 102k miles and wrote off in accident at 150k.

Escort - say no more. Must comment on paint job which was excellent with a deep shine, this car got washed twice a year if it was lucky.

Seat not bad, tyre noise quite high in cabin.

Alarm got its knickers in a twist once, I opened the boot first which immobilised the car. I worked out that you have to open a door first.
