Ford Explorer 4.0 5d Auto (1997/P) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Great value for money compared to buying a Grand Cherokee or Discovery.
Costs
Parts are quite cheap, but labour is expensive as always. Fuel cost as to be expected with a large 4x4.

On the road
Driving
Very comfortable, easy handling with power steering and ABS. Great on long runs.
Performance
Huge amount of GRUNT, when needed. Soft or firm suspension with ARC (Active Ride Control), self adjusting suspension for on or off road or for towing.

Living with it
Reliability
Only changed Exhaust Lamda sensors £90. Front Diff oil seal £14, changed it myself.
Image
I love the BIG American style of it. Rare car on the road. Sod being normal.
Comfort
Superb comfort with electric, leather seats. Tonnes of space for drivers and passengers. Got a large dog cage in the boot and still have loads of space for luggage and shopping.
