Ford Explorer review (2024) | Parkers cars

Want to know everything there is to know about this car?

In their own words

I ran an electric Mustang for nearly three years with no severe problems, apart from recalls from six or seven manufacturers' warranty recalls.
I prefer the Explorer. I know it's not as big, especially regarding boot space, but there's ample room for the driver and passengers. It's certainly easier to park, and the ride is much better. The Mustang, being four-wheel drive, was a good performer in snow, but I've yet to try the Explorer. I prefer four-wheel drive as I've had problems with rear-wheel-drive cars, especially in the snow!
The Explorer's touch screen stopped working soon after I took delivery. I booked the car into the Ford dealership to have it fixed. Then it started working again, but a couple of weeks later, it stopped again. Luckily, I hadn't canceled the appointment with the Ford Garage; it's going in on November 27th.
I hope they can resolve the problems with the touch screen, key fob, and blindspot indicators on the passenger door mirror.
It's a shame that when the Ford dealership handed it over, the salesman didn't explain in more detail the many functions of the buttons and switches, especially the touch screen!
The head-up display is okay, but as I'm 6'1" tall, I have to lower my head to read the display—obviously, an item Ford didn't think about when creating the car!
I'm just hoping that no more problems surface as this is the best Electric car I've driven. It's undoubtedly quieter inside than the Mustang!

How reliable do you find the car?

Since the beginning, the keyfob to open the rear hatch has never worked, and I am awaiting an appointment with the Ford dealer.
The touch screen suddenly stopped working for a couple of days, then started working again, but it failed again. I am awaiting an appointment with the Ford dealer to sort the matter out.
The blind spot indicator on the near side door mirror sometimes works; again, I'm awaiting an appointment with the Ford dealer.
I had an electric Mustang for nearly three years, so serious problems, apart from six recalls! I hope they can sort out the issues with the Explorer; I prefer it to the Mustang.
The salesman did not fully explain the car's features to me at handover, so I was left to sort out the problems myself!
