Ford Fiesta 1.0 Popular 3d (1989/G) Owner Review

Economy
Value
I was given this car for free! Cheap to run generally. I just had to replace the front discs and pads myself, total cost £45, and replace head gasket myself (£16 for full kit).
Costs
Not fantastic on fuel, due to 4-speed box, but insurance is cheap. Stangely it eats front tyres, although this maybe due to suspension problems.

On the road
Driving
Easy to drive. Decent brakes and handling but does roll a bit. She is very noisy at motorway speeds.
Performance
45bhp was never enough! 0-60 in about 18 seconds. However, I can get 85mph out of her on the flat… although she is screaming her head off at this speed.

Living with it
Reliability
I have never had a problem with her, although the previous owner did have the mechanical fuel pump expire on her. She uses a fair bit of oil due to leaks though from the sump and driveshaft oil seal.
Image
She is rusty and white, but I can't complain.
Comfort
Other than the noise she is quite comfy to drive, if a little 'crashy' over rough roads.

Security and Service
Security
Some one broke into her by bending the top of the door frame once! You can lock the doors and that's it, but nobody will steal it.
Service
I do all my own servicing, but experience with a new Ford in the past has put me off buying new from them! They were terrible to say the least.
