Ford Fiesta 1989
  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

Lots of fun for little cash. A real bargain, and a lot cheaper to insure than an XR2.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Cheap to maintain, but uses lots of fuel if driven hard.

  • On the road

    Driving

    3 out of 5 3.0

Fun, but tendency to understeer. Beware of wet roads and oily roundabouts.

    Performance

    3 out of 5 3.0

0-60 in about 10.5 seconds, but is beaten by many newer sports hatches.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

It is very reliable, and easy to fix yourself.

    Image

    2 out of 5 2.0

Looks a bit ordinary outside, but skirts and body kits increase insurance and harbour rust. Adding a set XR2 alloy wheels improves the look and handling. Has nice sporty interior.

    Comfort

    2 out of 5 2.0

A bit bumpy on rough roads, and can be unconfortable on long journeys. My mum thinks it's very uncomfortable, but she's 66!

  • Security and Service

    Security

    1 out of 5 1.0

I recommend fitting an immobiliser and some crook locks, just in case!

    Service

    3 out of 5 3.0

Best to avoid the Ford Dealership whenever possible, because they are expensive. I recommend visiting your local parts shop for most spares, and using the scrapyards for main dealer parts.
