Economy
Value
Last of line models had a decent discount new.
Costs
Ford main dealer servicing surprisingly reasonable, mine's done 54k now and all it's needed apart from servicing are tyres, brake pads, wipers & 3 bulbs.

On the road
Driving
Handles really well, power steering nicely weighted, with sporty steering wheel. 14"" alloys with wider than standard tyre help roadholding and front fogs aid driving in bad weather. Sporty white dials easy to read.
Performance
surprisingly nippy for a 1.2, due to the 16v zetec engine, 75bhp compared to the 1.3 CVH's 60. Does 115 downhill with a tailwind, 80 the other way. Decent enough for a wee hatchback.

Living with it
Reliability
had to go back to dealer 4 or 5 times in the 1st 2 months. Check headlining for dampness, specially at front near interior light and top of A pillar as mine leaked around roof aerial. CD player replaced under warranty too. never gone wrong since though.
Image
fairly smart looking wee car, alloys, spoiler etc make it stand out from the base models.
Comfort
Seats a wee bit hard on long journeys. Road/wind noise a little intrusive. Suspension firm, good for handling, bad for bumpy roads. A/C, single CD, E/W, C/L, alloys, f/fogs, rear spoiler, tinted glass, white dials, met paint all std fit.

Security and Service
Security
Has standard engine immobiliser, no alarm. Central locking by key only - no remote. Don't lose your keys, ford need the car for a day and charge you £130 for the privilege.
Service
Service from dealer was abysmal when sorting initial problems out. £7k may not be a big sale to Ford, but I'll think twice before opening my wallet to ford again now that I'm looking for a bigger car.
