Summary
What does this car say about you?
Put the full stripe pack on it and drive like a loon and its shouts "CHAV" almost as loud as any Corsa could manage. Keep it clean, drive properly and stick the subtle side stripes on and I think it looks a lot more refined.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Most like it.
Would you buy this car again and why?
I don't believe there are better alternatives in the same size / budget class - unless you don't mind the french offerings but I'd rather get the bus than drive a car made out of crisp packets and chicken wire!
What are you likely to buy next?
Focus ST

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Independent
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£7,500
When did you buy the car?
January 2007
Did you get a good deal and why?
Haggled on trade in price aggressively and the finance on offer.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Wanted a pre-facelift model ST as not fond of the changes made in the facelift - especially with the dashboard as it was a massive step back in terms of quality and style!
What was the dealer like?
Easy to deal with, primarily selling higher value cars and marques so seemed keen to shift the car as it looked out of place beside Mercs and BMWs!

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Its nibble and the power makes it quick, the steering is precise and feedback is good - the car HATES poor road surfaces though and will tramline if the road is uneven / badly repaired. Its short geared to make it rapid but the downside to this is 3400/3500rpm in 5th gear at 70mph - the car ideally should have got a six speed box, but its not unlike Ford to ignore such details. I wouldn't buy one of these cars if I was only covering motorways - its much more at home on A roads.
What's it like to park?
Awful turning circle (big alloys + small car = danger) makes it a little tricky to park but once you get the hang of it you can live with it. Most 3 point turns will require 5 if not 7 goes though - be warned!

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Recall for the clutch clip was done under warranty. No other issues and no remedial work has been needed outwith of regular servicing. Sailed through first MOT with no issues. Squeak coming from the rear / boot area in summer is annoying, keep meaning to find it and erridicate it but as its winter right now its not present so I've not done anything about it.
What's most practical about your car?
Boot space is reasonable and can carry two adults in the back in relative comfort. Front seats could be better but aren't bad if your slender.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
6 CD changer built into ther dash is neat, like the steering wheel controls for the major functions.
