Cheaper, yet better than a Golf. Need I say more??

Being an auto, the economy is really compromised. I'll put it into comparison ... a Focus 1.6 Manual returns approx. 40mpg average. I manage around 28mpg in this one and that is with mixed careful driving. Worst I have got is 22mpg around town.

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Like all Focus's, its a pleasure to drive. Handles really well, and has enough power for a 1.6 - even the auto box is smooth. Its just a pity that its only a 4 speed auto as this hampers its flexibility.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Quick for a 1.6 around town. On the motorway, you do find it needs to be kicked down when overtaking.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

So far so good. Simple reliable Zetec engines should go on for a long time to come.

    Image

    3 out of 5 3.0

Common as muck, but the image is not as bad as you might think. A sensible choice which goes down well with most people. Its not as flashy as a Golf or a BMW but definitely not as dowdy as a Rover or an Astra.

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

Driving position is good with excellent visibility. Seats comfortable and highly adjustable. Haven't sat in the back so I can't say anything about the rear room - non of the passengers have complained though.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    5 out of 5 5.0

Deadlocks, alarm must be as good as any other car. Focus isn't exactly a nickable car anyway. Too many on the roads to warrant them a target for thieves.
