Ford Focus Hatchback 1.8 TDi Zetec 5d (01) (2003/52) Owner Review

-
Economy
Value
Very high quality for the price.
Costs
Easy 50mpg and reasonably priced servicing. First set of GoodYears lasted 45,000 miles despite enthusiastic cornering.
-
On the road
Driving
Agile, superb grip wet or dry and very forgiving of mistakes.
Performance
90bhp diesel makes it no GTI, but plenty of mid range torque gives strong surge of accelleration in any gear at almost any speed.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Only one minor fault so far. Has never failed to get me where I want to go.
Image
Ok, so everybody's got one, but it's a sensible choice for no-nonsense man (or woman). Mine even looks quite menacing in metallic black.
Comfort
Supportive multi adjustable seats and 2-way adjustable steering wheel give comfortable driving position. High quality interior has no rattles or squeaks after 51,000 miles. Large glass area makes air conditioning essential in summer.

Security and Service
Security
Remote deadlocks and immobiliser are confidence inspiring. Lack of standard fit alarm pure genius as everybody ignores car alarms, especially car thieves.
Service
Local dealer friendly and efficient, one technical mistake made during service, however.

Other
Boot release solenoid failed at 45,000 miles, replaced under warranty. Service technician forgot to seal pollen filter cover at base of windscreen, passenger footwell filled up with water. Dealer offered full valet of car free with next service.
