Ford Focus Hatchback (2005 - 2011) 1.6 Zetec 5d (08) Owner Review

Bought my Focus 2008 after a very positive family experience with a 2002 Focus that had the same 1.6 Zetec engine and specification. A good start there with an engine that was free revving and had enough pace for motorways and slower roads along with independent suspension all round that made for a comfortable yet sporty ride with excellent handling. Interior was well put together with no issues whatsoever, sporty zetec seats and a retro fitted Sony Radio helped it feel like a good place to be.

Unfortunately, the mechanicals were nothing but troublesome, A few issues are always expected at 60k miles but the extent of repairs made things an absolute nightmare. Power Steering failed, Exhaust Manifold failed along with brake callipers and most annoyingly, the instrument cluster (A common fault that failed on multiple occasions) and would stop the immobiliser from allowing the engine to start.

A sorry experience all round that really has left the "Fix Or Repair Daily" slogan an association with all Ford products to go along with 3x Family Galaxy's that had nothing but issues themselves.
