Summary
What does this car say about you?
Someone who is not concerned too much about what they drive.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Though it was OK, but nothing special.
Would you buy this car again and why?
No - fuel and servicing costs too high, engine not refined enough compared to other diesels
What are you likely to buy next?
Have bought Golf 1.4 GT TSI 170
-
Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Franchise
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£7,000
When did you buy the car?
February 2009
Did you get a good deal and why?
Car was cheap and have very low miles on it, was also offered above book price for my trade in, and had 2yrs warranty thrown in which sweetened the deal.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Though it would be a good compromise on performance / economy / quality
What was the dealer like?
Very good, although how they managed to damage the car when moving it between dealers before purchase remains a mystery, damage was fixed before collection. Dealer also managed to knock turbo output pipe off TWICE at different services !!! Parts prices very good, labour VERY expensive.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Not bad, engine can be a bit noisy, needs cruise control. Can also be very thirsty, typically around 30mpg in town, and no better than 40 on a good run.
What's it like to park?
Ok, although hard to tell where the rear is exactly when reversing.
-
Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Alternator failed after 18 months. Rear anti-roll bar bushes wore out by 50,000 miles. Also found engine needs to be used on long journeys on a regular basis in cold weather, or it shows some symptoms that make it look like head gasket is failing.
What's most practical about your car?
Good size boot. Being light blue (Tonic, I think) does not show road dirt much.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Factory fitted Sony stereo, although aux input is rubbish.
