Economy
Value
Lots of good standard features and gadgets to make life easy. Cheaper than the equivalent Golf 2.0 TDi, you're less likely to look like a poser too!
Costs
It's a Ford, so lower) insurance and servicing. Because it's a diesel (returns 45mpg+) fuel costs are wallet-friendly and road tax is reasonable too!

On the road
Driving
The Focus' forte. Handling is perfectly balanced and responsive, with great feedback from the road's surface through a perfectly weighted leather steering wheel. The ride is also perfectly balanced between comfort and sportyness. Confidence inspiring.
Performance
With 251lb.ft torque it pulls with a refined gusto in every gear between 1500 and 3500rpm. Cruises in sixth gear at 70mph at an inaudible 2000rpm, giving it the motorway ability of a powerful 3.0 V6 petrol. Minus the ludicrous fuel bill.

Living with it
Reliability
Too early to tell... but our old Focus 2.0l Zetec did 80,000 miles before anything went wrong.
Image
'Blur', rather than 'Focus' may be a more appropriate name for the new model. The vast improvements made in handling, comfort and the 2.0 tdci are somewhat soured by this loss of image. Rather anonymous-looking now.
Comfort
Generally good. Comfortable and supportive seats are accommodated by a spacious and ergonomically intuitive cabin. Easily transports 5 adults in comfort. It also has an armrest in the front and a sizeable boot!

Security and Service
Security
Excellent safety, has alarm, immobiliser, clever locking fuel pump/boot and the doors lock automatically after being left for 10 minutes or more.
Service
Ford Ringways Doncaster is an excellent service centre.
