Ford Focus ST (2006 - 2010) 2.5 ST-2 3d (08) Owner Review

The MK2 Focus ST, the best possible engine Ford has *stole* from Volvo! I have always been a fan of the ST's and was thrilled to be able to buy (and insure!) my 2008 Facelift in Moondust Silver. If i was to describe the car in three words i would use the following: Fun, Costly, Cool! In terms of practicality it is a Focus, so choose wisely in terms of 3/5 door! However, running costs are far from the bog-standard Diesel Focus range.. tax is £330, which is ridiculous, Fuel Economy is just awful, i average about 200miles to a £55 tank, but you will have people say they do worse or better! But to be fair to it, on a run you can see 30MPG plus but not regularly as you'll be addicted to the stunning sound from the Dual Exhaust at the back, crackles, pops the lot from even a stock exhaust, I would definitely recommend at least doing a res-delete to really open it up! I wouldn't say the ST is the most reliable car in the world with a fair few ever so common problems which mine has all received (currently on 115k)... Alternators tend to give up, Oil Filter Housings tend to leak or make a nasty noise, Driveshafts are ever so common to fail and many other "not so big" problems too! If you are seriously looking for a good ST my advice would be to find one which has a good service history & general history, not one that has been ragged about by men in tracksuits and baseball caps! I love my ST, and am privileged to be able to drive it everyday!
