Ford Focus ST (2006 - 2010) 2.5 ST-2 5d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
Good car, really good car. Nice to drive, comfy and that 5 cylinder sound is highly addictive I went for the facelift version as I prefer it over the pfl, interior is much the same on all. I also went for a 5 door for the practicality. Peformance is ok, more of a cruiser than a racer, if that makes sense. Some people will argue with me on that, stating their ST beats most things on the road, fair enough, but I am running 290bhp and I still struggle with other lightly tuned hatchbacks. Though being super quick isn't what this car is about, it does pretty much everything I need it to, once I get past the shocking fuel consumption haha. I gave this 3 stars as I believe it is very much a good car for the money but there are better options out there. But if you are really wanting one, then make sure it has history and isn't highly modified, which seems to be difficult these days. And if you want to modify it, I wouldn't really bother, I have already spent a small fortune taking it to a safe 290bhp and it doesn't really feel much faster than normal, just sounds a lot better.
How reliable do you find the car?
Overall it has been very reliable, I have had a couple of niggles but all just wear and tear issues. It is afterall almost 9yrs old. The engine is bulletproof, being a volvo unit. The only thing I would suggest is if you decide to tune it, get the Block Mod done, google it. Cracked liners can result in a rebuild or new engine. But again its fine if you stay standard or get it done anyway when you have the cambelt replaced, better to be safe.Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
Now this is interesting, the ST was infact everything I expected, comfy, reliable, practical and quick... well at first. I bought this as most reviews said they are great in every aspect, which I agree, it is a perfect all rounder. But I was soon to discover, its not actually that quick, by no means is it slow but it certainly does not throw you back in to your seat. The power delivery is very smooth and the gears are very long, so feels quite tame. Oh and its rather weighty for a hatch back, over 1400kgs. I did a track day and it was a bit crap.About their car
