Ford Maverick 2.0 XLT 5d (2002/02) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Compared to a Shogun, (also owned) this is a lot for your money. Standard audio system puts most to shame, roof bars are standard fitment as are alloy wheels, front fogs twin airbags and adjustable steering column and drivers seat height and lumbar.
Costs
With the abundance of Ford franchises scattered across the land, competition is good, thus keeping costs down. Again many of the service items for this vehicle are generic Ford and Mazda parts as used on the Focus and Mondeo keeping prices to a minimum.

On the road
Driving
For a 4x4, the on road handling is fantastic, minimal body roll, tight and lively into the twists, with an active 4 wd system that evenly distributes power to all four corners.
Performance
For a car, the performance could be considered lacking, however as an SUV it is more than adequate, coming pretty much top for 0-60, on-road handling and overall predictability.

Living with it
Reliability
apart from a minor problem with the fuel injection return pipe on mine absolutely nothing... my car has been to Singapore, Cyprus and Egypt and coped fantastically in all environments from Snow on Mt. Troodos, Cyprus to sand, dust and humidity in Cairo
Image
Not much in UK, has been the top selling SUV in the US for 3 years running...even Barbie has one!!!??! honest!..
Comfort
Firm but comfortable ride, big chunky everything! Good pedal position, large supporting and comfortable seats and lots of cabin storage space.
