Ford Maverick (2001 - 2003) 2.0 XLT 5d Owner Review
In their own words
This vehicle came into my life because I was looking for a daily workhorse. To be honest I had never heard of the Maverick before but found this one which I think was waxoyled from new - it is in amazing condition for its age. It's comfortable (by turn of the century standards). It won't win you any prizes in a race away from the lights but its carrying capacity is enormous! It has helped with several house removals for my children and will accommodate fridge freezers, washing machines, tables, chairs etc.etc. As far as trips to the recycling centre are concerned it has yet to be beaten taking all manner of garden refuse, sacks of rubbish etc. I am lucky to have a local independent garage to look after it (Martin Gilbert of Abingdon) and they are brilliant at sourcing spares no longer available new. In the tme I've had it, its only needed a new clutch and has just passed its latest MOT with flying colours.
Its not the most economical in terms of mpg 25 with normal use, 30 on a long trip. It will cruise all day at 70mph+ and is reasonable off road but I wouldn't go for anything more than a mildly challenging golf course. In short I love this vehicle and aim to keep it going for as long as possible - there are only a couple of hundred left so you are unlikely to bump into another!
