Economy
Value
Loads of choice, easy to find a nice example.
Costs
Never returns less than 40mpg, even under heavy load at high speed.

On the road
Driving
Handles well for a fairly large car with smallish tyres. Ride is a little stiff but not uncomfortable. Requires tracking and wheel balance to be carefully set to avoid vibration.
Performance
A bit sluggish off boost, once the turbo is blowing it has enough urge to overtake safely and it will cruise happily at motorways speeds with plenty left to come. Like all turbo diesels, it isn't the quickest off the lights.

Living with it
Reliability
Has never not started and runs very sweetly.
Image
My friends call it the mini-cab. It is never gonna set pulses racing.
Comfort
Big and comfortable seating, good heating although it can get very warm in hot weather without the sunroof open. Quiet for a TD, engine noise is a quiet thrum whilst cruising, gets a bit gruff when being revved although never too loud.

Security and Service
Security
It has an immobiliser of some description and central locking but a diesel ford is hardly a big thief target.
Service
Only went to dealer to buy new sump plug for oil change, one assistant was really rude, one was really helpful.

Problems and Ownership

Engine
Has only done 55,000 miles, feels good for 550,000 miles with regular servicing.
Other
It has a bit of a vibration when braking from about 50mph, having the tracking set seems to make it better.
