Economy
Value
£290 from a car auction. Full service history with 95k on the clock. Fuel economy: high 40's if you keep it under 2500 rpm, low 30's if you really rev it high and thrash it about town.
Costs
Only had to replace two front suspension arms and front to back brake pipes for mot. Dirt cheap from a motor factors. Both front to back brake pipes were a total pain to replace (fuel tank really gets in the way).

On the road
Driving
Very smooth on the motorway, good road holding (even in wet conditions) The handling is better than my 99' Seat Toledo and that's all VW under the bonnet!
Performance
Not bad pull after 2200 rpm once turbo is up to speed. Good overtaking power 60-90 mph in 5th is a walk in the park. Cant help thinking the car could do with a 6th gear as its sitting at 3000rpm at 80 mph and could easily handle a 6th.

Living with it
Reliability
Even on the coldest of mornings it starts quick first time (no need to heat glow plugs 3 and 4 times) Its an old ford, be prepared to pay for the odd suspension arm/bush.
Image
Hmm, what can I say. its a mk1 met green diesel mondeo, hardly a head turner. Maybe that's a good thing.
Comfort
Lumbar support on driver and front passenger seat. Right leg can get a little tired on long trips on the motorway as the accelerator pedal is maybe positioned a little to high up but you can tilt the front of the seat up so its not that bad at all.
