Economy
Value
Good value for money. Better quality build for a Ford.
Costs
Poor Zetec engine - built at Longbridge - known to have been re-called by Ford to have cylinder heads replaced due to being very badly produced. Look for dragon motif on cambelt cover - bad engine.

On the road
Driving
Spot on. Also known for common 'pull to the left on braking' syndrome. Improved on later models.
Performance
Plenty of power to achieve what it needs to, but could have a bit more umph.

Living with it
Reliability
Usual standard of a Ford - it's down to the build quality of the mechanicals and electrics of the car. Have replaced starter motor and cylinder head.
Image
Sensible family car, and well looked after models still look smart.
Comfort
Best ride comfort I've had in a Ford yet. Perfect driving position and excellent cabin designed around driver.

Security and Service
Security
Never had it broken into. Good security features.
Service
Ford have always been poor at being helpful - cars are improving now though. Service ought to be in line with this.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Crap cylinder head cost me over £1000 in work to sort. Three holes burnt in it.
Other
Indicator lenses tend to take on water due to poor production. It does blow bulbs!
