Economy
Value
Paid £1,200 in 2002 with 98k. Looked at other makes with similar mileage, saved several hundred quid!
Costs
Servicing is cheap (£170 through my local garage) tyres (£32 a corner) and a total new exhaust (£84 Kwikfit), it has been the cheapest car I've owned. The most expensive car was a Golf... Very expensive when things go wrong.

On the road
Driving
Sharp and responsive, but needs to be handled with care. Sometimes understeer can lead to some unpredictable cornering!
Performance
Was pretty good, but the high mileage is slowing it down. Or perhaps it's everyone else going faster? Can go when you want it to, but you pay the price in fuel if you open the taps.

Living with it
Reliability
Never left me stranded. Never failed to start. Can sound a bit gruff if it's been standing in damp conditions for a couple of days.
Image
Phase 1 Mondeos aren't the greatest thing on the road, but you can get one like mine for about £300 now. For this money, who's worrying about image?
Comfort
Very comfy. Good seats, good driving position, could do with lumbar support for long journeys.

Security and Service
Security
Well no one's tried. Alarm is whisper quiet and the deadlocks have packed up... still got it though.
Service
Wanted £££ to just look at the deadlocks. I've decided that it's not worth it.
