Ford Mondeo Hatchback 2.5 V6 5d (1995/M) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Paid £1500 from local garage. A bit on the dear side, but I have the backup of a warranty and niggly faults have been fixed.
Costs
Full tank £47.00. Used a quarter-tank around town (done about 70miles). Ford very dear on parts, insurance higher, labour expense much higher due to a more complicated engine.

On the road
Driving
Very comfortable to drive. Feels much larger than a Cavalier. Nicer to drive, too.
Performance
Power cuts in around 3500rpm, pulls well, great V6 sound.

Living with it
Reliability
Only had the car a few days, so I don't know about this. Been told water pump and head gasket tend to go on these engines.
Image
I don't like the Mk1 Mondeo - ugly, but mine has factory fit spoilers all round with alloy wheels, look much better.
Comfort
Very comfortable.

Security and Service
Security
Seems good. If you need a spare key, watch out - you need to buy new key and have it programmed which can set you back over £60.00. Ford are just a rip off.
Service
Don't like Ford (Vospers) well overpriced - very greedy!

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Tickover problem. Tended to cut out after starting, air sensor was replaced.
Other
Water leak from sunroof, drain holes blocked, reversing lights didn't work, switch gone on gearbox, remote key fob doesn't work, they tend to go often. A bit pricey to run, but you get great performance, great sound and plenty of room for family.
