Ford Mondeo Hatchback 2.0 Ghia X 5d (00) (2002/52) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Buy a fully loaded top of the range model at 1 year old and let the fleet manager pay for the initial depreciation.
Costs
Fixed price servicing, reasonable fuel and tyre costs
-
On the road
Driving
Confident handling on winding 'A' and 'B' roads, relaxing on long motorway journeys. The big rear end and poor rear visibility makes reverse parking tricky.
Performance
Should've bought the V6, the 2.0 is OK for motorway driving, but some extra oomph for overtaking wouldn't go amiss.

Living with it
Reliability
Has its moments when it needs to turn over for about 10 secs before kicking into life.
Image
No matter what spec it is, the Audi boys in the office will always sneer at that blue badge on the front.
Comfort
Comfy seats, but cabin layout leaves a lot to be desired. Tricky to switch heated seats on and off if you're in 3rd or 5fth gear, the lever gets in the way. Really fiddly heating/ cooling controls require you to take you eyes off the road to adjust.

Security and Service
Security
Double locks and immobiliser must help I'm sure.
Service
Ford main dealer is friendly and efficient, but can only offer a Ka as a courtesy car. They seem to perform all checks they claim to at service time. Reasonable service costs so far.
