Summary
What does this car say about you?
I'm Mr. Average, but I like a bit of vroom.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
I live on a council estate, so I'm practically middle-class to some.
Would you buy this car again and why?
No, it's dated as hell now and who wants to own the same model twice?
What are you likely to buy next?
My heart is set on a Golf MK V GT TDI 2.0.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Franchise
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£13,500
When did you buy the car?
November 2003
Did you get a good deal and why?
Dealer offered a generous part-ex for my knackered Peugeot 206 in order to secure a sale. I got the Ghia for the same price as a Zetec with the same engine because it was already due to be delivered to the dealer from Ford Direct as part of it's regular stock intake.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Large boot, fuel economy with performance.
What was the dealer like?
Friendly, eager and helpful, if a little vague on technical details about the model.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
You certainly get a lot of performance (for a diesel), it handles easily and inspires confidence on all but the slipperiest surfaces. Turbo-lag becomes increasingly annoying as the mileage tots up but that's life. Comfy on long journeys.
What's it like to park?
Rear boot is hard to judge but practice makes perfect. My rear bumper is somewhat scarred from my early attempts in multi-storey car parks.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
*I've had the handbrake un-seized 2 or 3 times, as well as needing the brakes dismantled and cleaned a couple of times to stop a squealing noise whilst driving. *Problems associated with the fan are dealer-only repairs and can cost. I'm on my third fan-belt tensioner. *Factory-fitted CD player died at 100K. *Cam-sensor needed replacement at 120K, a scary problem that made my engine lose power on a motorway.
What's most practical about your car?
It's built for the motorways. Great to drive at cruising speed and the boot is cavernous.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Retractable cup-holder! Although the climate control and 6-CD front-loader come in a close second.
