Summary
What does this car say about you?
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Everyone really likes the car but the unreliability issues and fact the power steering failed at 24k miles means none of them would touch one. A friend owns a Mk4 Mondeo and has suffered complete brake failure on 2 occasions when it was a few months out of warranty. Their car has done less than 50k miles. they are equally concerned at the poor quality of the Ford mechanicals.
Would you buy this car again and why?
I can honestly say I'll never buy another Ford. I owned a Mk3 Mondeo which was problematic. I thought it was just a 'bad one'. The reliability issues are just not acceptable in this day and age when other manufacturers have upped their game so much. The long term reliability as the miles rack up looks pretty bad.
What are you likely to buy next?
A car with a longer warranty than Ford offer. Vauxhall and Hyundai offer longer warranties for peace of mind and my old Audi was faultless for the entire time I owned it.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Extremely refined and comfortable, one of the most comfortable cars I've every owned. Very relaxing to drive as it is so quiet inside and soaks up the roughest of roads without an issue. The 1.8TDCI is surprisingly able and more than adequate unless you're a speed demon. Handles corners and roundabouts like a much smaller car and nothing seems to unsettle it.
What's it like to park?
Very easy to park with front and rear parking sensors when they are working.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Aircon condensor replaced as 18k miles, dealer knew instantly what was wrong over the telephone as they had replaced so many. Steering rack and pump failed at 24k miles, most of which were motorway miles. A quick internet search shows this as an extremely common fault on Mk4 Mondeo's which is a huge worry for future reliability. Dealer has admitted to changing "quite a few" on cars that have done less than 50k miles. Rear brake pads worn out at 24k miles. Dealer claims I've done quite well!! Never needed to change pads before 60k on any other car. Front parking sensors do not like sub zero temperatures but work fine again once temperature is above freezing. Headlight malfunction message pops up occasionally for no apparent reason and then clears itself. Just learnt to ignore this. Ear
What's most practical about your car?
Size of the boot and space in the back.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Multifunction headlights that turn as you steer work really well.
