Ford Mondeo Saloon 1993
  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

Let's see; comfortable, luxurious, high performance and economical. Depreciation has been the worst concern.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

£22k new, £9.5k at 2 year old, now £3.5k; "oh my god". Its a good job servicing and maintenance is cheap!

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Excellent all-rounder, after 4 years motoring I still can't find a more worthy replacement.

    Performance

    5 out of 5 5.0

Better than you would believe and silky smooth too. Fabulous engine, but they are prone to blowing up and at £3.5K to replace engine- ouch!

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    2 out of 5 2.0

Always lots of nigling problems and Ford do everything possibe to avoid deal with warranty claims Even if it's a warrant claim they still charge you to check and believe me it's rare that one visit solves the problem. Advice - befriend a good mechanic!

    Image

    3 out of 5 3.0

You don't get many admiring looks these days with all the new hot hatches around (sadly) so I guess it's become discrete - yer right! It just means the Officer with their radar guns are less likely to want to tack your picture which is fine with me

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

When driven very hard the suspension is too soft, driven slowly - it feels harsh. The other 99% of the time perfect. The excellent handling encourages exuberant driving, to the displeasure of your passengers.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    4 out of 5 4.0

Standard deadlocks and alarm OK, almost impossible to steal without transponder key, but for peace of mind, use extra protection. Anyway its unlikely that an old Mondeo will be a joyrider's first choice.

    Service

    1 out of 5 1.0

Ford Sheffield & Leamington to be avoided like the plague Ford warranty's are not worth the paper they are written on and Ford customer care couldn't give a damn about the way you are treated, interestingly.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

Bags of torque and impressive acceleration, 83k and almost as good as new, but they are prone to catastrophically failing, ask any car breakers.

    Other

Dozens of faults, made worse by the Ford dealership network, plague what is an excellent car.

Did you buy the car new?

    Used
