Other Ford Mondeo (2007 - 2014) models:

What does this car say about you?

Don't really know. I really wanted a BMW 3 series but then I got my sensible head on and went for this. It really is worth while taking a look - please do so before parting with more money than you have to spend.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Some have described it as 'limo-like'. It is very spacious and looks great with the tinted rear windows. Some, however, have questioned why a Ford? (My previous car was an Alfa 159, great to look at, but bad to drive). My answer is that I don't really care. With the budget I had, I was looking at 3-4 year old BMW's with little equipment. Then I read the positive reviews for the Mondeo, and this had everything I needed (it really is fully loaded with equipment), only 6 months old and within budget (with quite a bit left over). Also relieved that the future running costs are gonna be low.

Would you buy this car again and why?

I might buy another Ford - it was a make that I was never really keen on (too common etc.) but I really can't fault the Mondeo. So yes, if my budget was tight, I would look at another Ford.

What are you likely to buy next?

I really want a BMW or Mercedes, but only when I have plenty of spare cash to get the model that I really want (hence the Mondeo, I didn't really want to compromise on anything, so this car is fine until I'm in a position to get what I really want)

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchise

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £15,000

When did you buy the car?

    December 2009

Did you get a good deal and why?

Yes, car was ex-Ford demo. Only 6 months old and because I said I was interested in one particular car they offered a bit more off.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Excellent value for money & a good price

    What was the dealer like?

Very friendly. The car was based elsewhere but they said they would arrange to bring it to my local dealership for viewing. I agreed to buy before seeing the vehicle but the dealer was happy to accept a deposit 'subject to viewing' so I knew I could change my mind if I wanted to.

  • Driving it

    What's it like to drive?

It's good. This is my first automatic - more recently I've been spending a lot of time in town and stuck in traffic, hence getting an auto. But the Mondeo does have a Sports mode if you did want more control over gear change yourself. The car is big and it feels solid and safe. First couple of gears feel like you'd expect for a large diesel engine but from 3rd gear onwards this car has some real pulling power and will move when you want it to. It's okay to drive in town but when you're in drive, the car is always pulling forward so I spend a lot of the time with my foot on the brakes (not really a fault of the car, just one of those things with automatics). Also, not the quickest thing to manoeuvre.

    What's it like to park?

Okay and occasionally frustrating. It is a big car and I've never had such difficulty in parking in bays! The problem is that the high window line makes it difficult to judge the size of the car and it's sometimes difficult to see parking lines. Quite often I will have to re-adjust my position two or three times and I now look for spaces that have no adjacent cars! Mine came with front and rear parking sensors and I'd strongly recommend that you have these. (I believe they can be fitted retrospectively if required)

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

    No.

What's most practical about your car?

    Size and fuel economy.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

DAB radio is very good. Heated front windscreen has been great in this cold weather and I always love watching the folding door mirrors.
