Economy
Value
Bought fairly new, one year old. After 3 years held 50% of value thereafter, lost almost £1k per year. It will be a terrific second hand bargain. Will be on the streets for decades just like the pug's amd Mark 2 GTIs.
Costs
Average costs clutch is expensive changed at 60k (probably needed changing sooner)had a mini heart attack but otherwise parts are generally fair.

On the road
Driving
Good handling, responsive steering and pedal spacing just right. However needed a clutch foot rest especially when commuting in heavy London traffic.
Performance
Feels quick but no GTI turbo beater. Needs a few tweaks in the engine bay mainly more Stallions,Torque and exhaust but otherwise a good daily runner.

Living with it
Reliability
No problems, only had to change tyres due to my Nigel Manson driving. They can be expensive at £50-£100 a pop.
Image
At the time they were new but now they are common but the styling is new age and I think still better than some class leaders. Best car that came from the Ford Factory in years and will go down as a legend. Who talks about the XR2i now?
Comfort
Needs a moveable steering rack, seats OK but after long driving begin to feel each bump, ride is comfortable but does not like speed humps, ouch. Air con is a must when we do have sun.

Security and Service
Security
Never had problems, had the car 4 years. A motion sensor would be beneficial if you live in a rough area.
Service
Service was good, Ford dealers were able to deal with any problems I had.
