Summary
What does this car say about you?
Says I don't drive a Mondeo/Insignia. Impresses my clients when I am able to supply samples from my mobile office and deliver large demonstration units that normal estate cars could not cope with.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Enjoy the space but tend not to notice the car as although large is quite anonymous - fine by me when parked with expensive contents hidden in boot.
Would you buy this car again and why?
Yes, but would insist on cruise control and tinted rear glass - air con is great but car can get baked in sunshine by the large glass area. Base model didn't even have a load cover - acquired separately. Having test driven A4, Mazda 6, 3 Series and Volvo recently have come to realise the S-MAX is a great drive for its size, if you don't mind the slightly lower quality components.
What are you likely to buy next?
Can not get a 2.0-litre S-MAX anymore on our company car list as it fails the new 130g/km CO2 limit . Therefore choice of A4 Avant, BMW 3 Series Touring, Volvo V60 or Mazda 6 Tourer.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Suspension more forgiving than current choices of A4, 3-series, Mazda 6 etc..... Surprisingly punchy acceleration in straight lines, obviously not as sharp round corners but you quickly learn the limits.
What's it like to park?
I am an experienced driver and higher position means no problems in 3.5 years of driving it. Parking sensors would have been nice though but not included in the base spec.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Absolutely nothing.
What's most practical about your car?
Absolutely loads of storage capacity. Mountain bikes, wardrobes, mattress, electric reclining armchairs, 8 foot fence posts - all easily accommodated. Despite size, it drives pretty much like a standard large estate car. Suspension more forgiving than current choices of A4, 3 Series, Mazda6, etc.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Sheer size and slightly higher driving position - good road presence.
