Ford Scorpio Estate 2.3 16V Ghia X 5d (1997/P) Owner Review

Economy
Value
These are £25k luxury cars you can buy for £3k. There is no better bargain to be had. Top Gear agreed!
Costs
The costs are reasonable for a luxury car, but are not rock bottom prices. The owners' web-site helps a lot.

On the road
Driving
It's a big car, but it goes where it's put, even at speed in the wet.
Performance
Watch this thing go! Sub 10 sec 0-60, bags of overtaking oomph and if you want more, there is a faster Cosworth engine!
-
Living with it
Reliability
I have had few problems. The website indicates that if you get water in the fusebox, you can get a host of electrical glitches which make you think the engine or gearbox is faulty and you might end up spending thousands.
Image
The car's looks were panned by the media (including Parker's!) and it was dropped. Now, Merc and BMW copy the style! Innovative, distinctive and ahead of its time!
Comfort
It's like lying in an armchair at home. No noise, even at motorway speeds+. No bumps. You can't tell that the engine is on.

Security and Service
Security
All the usual luxury features, alarms and immobilisers as standard.
Service
Few late Scorpios were made. The dealers often have no experience with them. Better to go to a Scorpio specialist.
