Ford Sierra Hatchback 2.9i V6 GLS 4x4 5d (1989/G) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Amazing value for a future classic. They start to go up again!
Costs
Fuel costs are atrocious. Since it's appreciating slowly and cost £300, it's actually cheap. Parts in scrapyards for nothing. Proper Ford bits still quite cheap.

On the road
Driving
Confidence inspiring, safe and secure.
Performance
Amazing in the dry, astounding in the wet. Previous owner who uses an Evo VII says it is just a slower version of his new car.

Living with it
Reliability
Apart from niggles, it's so understressed it should last forever. Keep it tidy and service it and it'll last!
Image
A bit pants now, it's past it's best anyway. Can still look quite smart though, but keeping it more standard is a good idea for not looking like a Kev.
Comfort
Not so bad. Put in a Ghia interior so it's much better than the standard GLS. Nice driving position.

Security and Service
Security
Not bad. Fit your own immobiliser if you plan on leaving it anywhere dodgy.
Service
My local Ford garage parts department is great, they know their cars in and out. Never serviced there though. DIY.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Strong over-engineered lump. Buy oil and service it, warm it up slowly and it should last forever.
Other
Really over-engineered. Means that problems get worse over months, not days. Can spot problems and fix them before they get really bad.
Ownership

Used
Would you buy the same model again?
No
Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?
Yes
